Makayla started dancing when she was two years old and picked it back up at the age of 14. She has been dancing continuously ever since! Makayla has been trained in jazz, hip hop, tap, ballet, and lyrical. Her favorite genre of dance is hip hop!

Makayla attended high school in Bonham, Texas and was a part of the War Dancers Drill Team. During her four years on the team she served in many leadership positions. She was a social officer her sophomore year, head officer her junior year, and lieutenant her senior year. Makayla was taught under the instruction of Pamela Ferguson, Heather Bradley and she was taught in her senior year by fellow Axis teacher, Sara Wingfield! She graduated high school in 2017 and started her college journey studying the art of dance.

Makayla graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Intervention and Development along with a minor in dance! She participated in the Sparks Dance Team while in college for all four years and served as a captain/officer her last 3 years on the team. Makayla received numerous awards while dancing in college including choreographer of the year, best overall dancer, best turns, best kicks, most helpful, and Spark of the Year. While in college, Makayla taught dance through the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival’s After School Program for four years.

Makayla uses dance as an outlet to express emotions that words can’t express. She encourages her students to do the same when dancing. She strives to create an uplifting and fun environment that maintains a safe and respectful zone for her students.

Currently, Makayla also works full time at Kidlinx Childcare Academy here in Durant, Ok. She teaches the school age program there and has been there for over 5 years.

Outside of dance you can find Makayla spending time with her family and friends, exploring, or dancing for fun! She loves spending time with her boyfriend, Austin and her two dogs named, Ranger and Mia. She also has a leopard gecko named Cardi. Makayla plans on owning her own studio and child care center one day!
